12 May Report on the 35th Mediawave Festival
The Faculty of Theatre and Film team successfully concluded their participation in the 35th Mediawave International Film and Music Gathering, hosted at the scenic lakeside of Balaton in Szigliget. Our faculty was represented in the juries by professors Gáspár-Gábor Kalamár (feature film category) and Géza M. Tóth (animation category).
Students from the Hungarian Department of Cinema and Media actively participated in judging animated films, feature films, and documentaries. This year’s team – Gergő Fazakas, Mátyás Orbán, Lilla Nyéki, and Dóra László Babota – practically dreamed in film frames after repeatedly watching the submissions. The diverse and exciting festival entries can be viewed in the Mediawave Festival Program, and the list of award-winning films is accessible here.
An important highlight was the presentation of our students’ own films: Örökség by Gergő Fazakas, The Tree by Dóra László Babota, Keresztűz by Mátyás Orbán, and A hetedik kör by Lilla Nyéki, followed by engaging discussions.
Beyond the professional experiences, participants enjoyed opportunities for expert exchanges, enhanced by the festival’s musical evenings. These concerts offered delightful relaxation after intense film-watching sessions.
We were particularly delighted by the attendance of Hungarian media students from higher education institutions in Romania, making the festival a truly international professional gathering.
