On Thursday, 26th of September, at 4pm, Annie van den Oever will give a lecture in the Cinema room of the Faculty of Theatre and Film, entitled: “On Experimental Media Archaeology, Hands-On and the Ethos of Playfulness, Wonder, Curiosity and Care”.
Director of the Film Archive and Laboratory of Media Archaeology at the University of Groningen and Professor Emeritus of Film and Visual Arts at the University of the Free State in South Africa, Annie van den Oever has contributed significantly to the edification of experimental environmental archaeology as a disciplinary branch. Her lecture, included in the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF) program, will focus on the relevance of direct, manual interaction with technological devices in research and educational approaches in the field of media studies, presenting the fundamental principles of experimental media archaeology, from intellectual traditions and methodological orientations, to the centrality of playfulness and curiosity.
The event is part of a series of workshops organized by the Screenwriting: Filmology department of the I.L. Caragiale National University of Theater and Cinematography in Bucharest in collaboration with Babeș–Bolyai University in Cluj, with the aim of bringing researchers to universities with film and media profile who develop cutting edge study that is poorly represented in Romania.
